Engineering specialist BESTECH has been named in Queen’s University’s School of Business annual list of the 50 Best Small & Medium Employers in Canada for 2012.
With offices in Sudbury, Timmins, and Toronto, Ontario, BESTECH specializes in engineering, automation, software development and environmental monitoring to assist companies in the mining, pulp and paper, forestry, oil and gas, manufacturing and other industries enhance their productivity, profitability and safety.
Ranked at #41, BESTECH is the only business in the cities of Sudbury and Timmins to be named in the top 50 this year.
Employee engagement is the standard for determining the ‘best’ employers. In this study, feedback is received directly from employees about their workplace and their work experience. The study is conducted with the assistance of Aon Hewitt, the global human resource consulting and outsourcing business of Aon Corporation.
According to Aon Hewitt’s definition, employees are engaged when they “say, stay and strive.”
Engaged employees speak positively about the organization to others, are committed to remaining with their current employer, and are motivated by their organization’s leaders, managers, culture and values to go “above and beyond” to contribute to business success.

The average engagement score for this year’s 50 Best Small & Medium Employers was 83 percent; other participants in the study had an average score of 61 percent.
Best Employers research indicates that organizations with high engagement have greater employee retention, decreased absenteeism, better employee health and lower job stress, enhanced customer service, and better business results.
To be eligible to participate in the Best Small & Medium Employers in Canada study, organizations must have been in business in Canada for at least three years and have between 50 and 399 permanent, Canadian-based employees. Employers with 400 or more employees may take part in the companion Best Employers in Canada study. A total of 261 organizations participated in the two 2012 studies.
